schemes of work and differentiation

SCHEMES OF WORK

Schemes of Work are in draft form and reviewed annually. Each Unit is drafted by a combination of staff and cross-references to worksheets, homeworks and the requirements of the National Curriculum revised Order.

Students are encouraged to make full use of ICT and further details of the way ICT is integrated into units of work can be found by clicking here.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

The content of all Art and Design lessons should encourage equal opportunities. Projects should be suitable for all pupils regardless of class, gender or religion. Teachers should adhere to the practical steps to enhance the provision of equal opportunities as recommended in the school's Equal Opportunities Policy.

DIFFERENTIATION

Differentiation will be largely determined by outcome in the coursework.

Printed matter, such as worksheets and evaluation sheets, are reviewed with guidance from the head of Special Education to suit the pupils with special educational needs.

Practical work is designed to incorporate the basic content of knowledge and skills but should be able to extend the more able pupil who can incorporate greater complexity, accuracy, innovation and experimentation. Simply allowing the gifted or more able pupils to prematurely progress to the next project should be discouraged.

NATIONAL CURRICULUM Key Stage 3

In KS3 pupils will follow a course covering 3 Units of Art and Design each year building on the skills and knowledge of the previous year.

Three periods per fortnight are allocated in year 7 and 8 with two periods per fortnight in year 9.

Homeworks are issued weekly relating to the topic being studied.

Sketchbooks should be inspected and marked in accordance with the marking policy. Worksheets may be pasted into books.

Staff are encouraged to make full use of videos, worksheets, visuals and books within the department.

NATIONAL CURRICULUM Key Stage 4

Pupils will choose Art from the subject on offer in the option groups at the beginning of year 10.

Each group will study their chosen subject for 5 lessons per fortnight. There will be the opportunity for all Art students to use some of the computers in each room for the IT content of the syllabus but extra time will need to be found during lunch times and after school.
