CAD Unit

Pupils enter their first PECT project in year 7 focusing on a range of ICT packages used within Design Technology.

During this time pupils will experience the use of two CAD packages (Pro Desktop and 2D Design) and a control program (Logicator). These units will follow a series of step guide examples to ensure that pupils make good progress.

All students by the end of the unit will be able to produce basic 3D products and design a control system for a range of products.

Mobile Phone Holder

This Electronics project builds upon the knowledge and understanding obtained from the previous project.

Pupils build a Light Dependant Circuit incorporating an alarm to sound once a mobile phone or remote control has been removed from its holder.

The Vacuum forming process is introduced to enable a high quality product to be produced using Plastic as a material. The product is then personalised by using vinyl graphics to apply logos of their own choice.

CAD/ CAM Maze

This Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacture (CAD/ CAM) Control Technology unit incorporates three dimensional material removal using milling and cutting/plotter machines.

Pupils create a graphics layout on the computer for a maze game. This is then translated into code for a milling machine which cuts out the maze in a piece of acrylic.

There are three layers of acrylic which are laminated together, trapping a steel ball bearing in the centre.

The game is given a final corporate image by creating a logo and the shape is cut out of coloured self-adhesive vinyl sheet
