Design & Technology Visits

Each year the faculty organises a European Study Visit to a major capital city. Recent visits include Barcelona, Paris, Madrid and Bilbao.

Apart from the international visits each year students have the opportunity to visit local and national galleries and museums as well as see industrial practices first-hand. Annual visits include a London trip to the V & A, the Conran shop and the Design Museum at Shad Thames where we arrange for a leading international designer to speak to the group about their work.

The Millennium Dome

Katharine Lady Berkeley's pupils visit the Dome

@ Bristol Zoo

All Graphic Design students in Year 10 visit Bristol Zoo to collect research information for their final GCSE project.

On arrival students were given a presentation by a zoo manager who explained the design requirements for animal environments, visitor environments, advertising and marketing.

Students asked questions to visitors and zoo employees in order to get primary research information useful for their forthcoming design and make project.

During the presentation the group were given the opportunity to touch a boa constrictor snake and a pair of hissing cockroaches! - not everyone did though!

Below are some images of our visit including sculptures in the gardens.

Students carried our surveys by interviewing members of the public and zoo employees.
