KLB SCHOOL LANGUAGES FACULTY
GENERAL INFORMATION:
Katharine Lady Berkeley's School was granted
Language College status in 1996.
The school has a strong tradition with foreign languages, regularly
exchanging with schools in France and Germany.
As well as these traditional foreign languages, students are able to study, Japanese,
Italian, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese and Latin.
The faculty is equipped with its own multimedia suite equipped with 25 computers
(upgraded in 2006), broadband Internet connection and a digital data projector. This was opened on October 10th 1996 by Minister Masatoshi Moto,
the Director of the Japan Information and Cultural Centre at the Embassy of
Japan.
All pupils are given their own email address on joining the school and we are
keen to develop email links with other schools abroad.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE ASSISTANTS:
Where possible we have assistants from France, Germany, Spain or Japan who help prepare students for their speaking exams by working with small groups in lessons.
Exchanges:
Each year KLB runs exchanges with Collège Denecourt at Bois-le-Roi near Paris
in France, with the Raabeschule in Braunschweig in Northern Germany and with Colegio Altair in Madrid in
Spain. There is also an exchange with Japan - KLB
students visit Japan every other year, but host visitors every year.
Y12 Work Experience Abroad:
Each year KLB offers work experience in Brest in France and in Braunschweig
in Germany and supports work experience in Spain through a commercial company.
