KLB
School - Japanese
Language Teaching
Introduction:
Japanese, is the gateway to another culture, useful for intellectual studies,
business and tourism. Any form of business can use Japanese.
Key Stage 3:
The students study the basic skills: How to read Hiragana, and some kanji
(approximately 50 to 60). This language is not as easy as the other more popular
languages, e.g. French, Spanish, therefore learning the basic skills may take
longer than other languages.
Key Stage 4:
Same as European Languages but no coursework option. All pupils take the same paper with full range of grades (no Foundation/Higher). Speaking is assessed separately, not as part of overall GCSE grade.
The students will learn Post-beginners skills - How to read Katakana and 200
Kanji
Key Stage 5:
The students will study intermediate skills - Translation and comprehension,
a further 400 Kanji.
There are no work experience opportunities available, however there is a
Japanese exchange.
