Outdoor Activities at KLB School

The Lakes, October 1999

Outside the Bowderstone Hut Mr Kerr, Mr McRitchie and Mrs Davis took 15 pupils to the Lake District during October half term. The Bowderstone

We stayed in a hut which is next to a huge erratic called the Bowderstone. On the Sunday we walked from Thirlmere over the fells to Borrowdale. The Monday saw us climbing up Skiddaw in the mist but luckily it did not rain.

On Tuesday we went to Scarfell Pike and had a great day with fine weather and views. On the Wednesday, after cleaning up the hut, we walked from Borrowdale over Stake Pass and into Langdale.

Six of the pupils spent three days on their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award practice expedition. They walked with full kit from the Bowderstone Hut, around Derwent Water and camped at Castlerigg Farm.

Throughout the practice they worked well as a team and kept on schedule.
