Outdoor Activities at KLB School - Ten Tors 2000

Ten Tors Triumph

The Ten Tors Challenge is on Dartmoor and this year took place on the 13th and 14th May.

All three of the Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School Teams gained medals and team certificates.

The 55 mile team at Trowlesworthy Tor

The 35 mile team at the start of the 2000 Ten Tors Challenge.

The 35 mile team consisted of Simon Owen, Liz Tremaine, Laura Dudbridge, Rosanna Walton, Michael Goff and Graham Hemmings.

They made fine progress across and reached their sixth tor by the end of Saturday’s walk. They got up at 5.00 and checked in at Staple Tor at 6.00am to start Sundays walk back to Okehampton. They arrived back mid afternoon in high spirits and collected a team certificate and bronze medals.

Andrew Kocik, Lawrence Rockey, Alex Shovelton, Charlie Herbert, Damien Warren and Simon Marshall made up the successful 45 mile team.

Their walk took them to the south east corner of the moors and they camped near Hexworthy. They were up at 3.30am on the Sunday and made excellent progress to arrive at the end by mid afternoon.

The 55 mile team consisted of Mark Owen, Judith Baxter, Rachel Stephens, Nicola Beeby, Matthew Amos and Iain Telford.

They walked all day on the Saturday down to Trowlesworthy Tor and across towards the eastern side. the camped at 10.30pm. The following day they were up at 4.30 and walked all day back up the Moor arriving at the finish with 10 minutes to spare. The challenge of walking 55 miles with full kit in a fixed time is a rare opportunity to combine physical, mental and team working skills at the highest level.
