Course aims
|
The course uses a task driven approach to problem solving and decision making
that relies on the effective use of information and communication technology
systems; it enhances the student's role as a communicator and adviser; it
extends the student's conception of the effects and limitations of information
and communication technology and understanding of the new opportunities it
provides within organisations and society.
Wherever possible the teaching/learning will involve the practical use of
information and communication technology resources to perform useful tasks. This
is carried through to the Scheme of Assessment where students will be required
to utilise the full facilities of various packages and bring together their
knowledge and skills to solve a real and realistic problem.

The Examination Specification aims to develop the following:
- problem-solving skills through the practical application of
information and communication technology;
- the ability to analyse, appraise and make critical
judgements about the use of information and communication technology
systems;
- interpersonal skills necessary for communicating with
others;
- an understanding of the nature of information, its structure, application
and implications of its use;
- an awareness of the role of information technology in the management,
manipulation and dissemination of information;
- a broad and balanced view of the range of applications and
information systems, and an understanding of their capabilities and limitations,
and the implications for their use;
- an understanding of the role of people, technology and systems
in organisations;
- an awareness of the economic, social and ethical
implications of the use of information technology systems.
