Note: the term names refer to the 6 term year introduced by Gloucestershire LEA from September 2004

Term 1

Year 7 An introduction to the school network and the Windows operating system.

Presentation unit - using Microsoft PowerPoint

Year 8 Desktop publishing: (MS Publisher)

    • Combining ICT and non-ICT information
    • Presentation / layout skills
    • Evaluation and improvements (proof-reading by parents)

Year 9 Database skills (MS Access / MS Excel):

Term 2

Year 7 Web searching techniques
  • Reliable sources, evaluating websites

Email:

  • Attachments
  • Digital art work (Christmas eCards)

 

Year 8 Database work using Microsoft Access:
  • Adding/Editing/Deleting records, filters and basic queries. Creating a data-capture table and creating and filling in a simple database.

Control Technology:

  • Robot Arm simulation - recording commands and refining a program, basic decisions

Digital images:

  • Digital image capture and manipulation
Year 9

Database tasks (MS Access / MS Excel):

  • Completion of the initial GCSE 1b coursework task using a pre-prepared database.
  • Using a database/spreadsheet to analyse the nutrients in cereals (adult vs. children's)

Desktop publishing: (MS Publisher)

  • Using MS Access to produce a magazine article on cereals using the results of their analysis.

Term 3

  • Modelling, more advanced functions such as countif, goal seek etc.
Year 9

Control Technology (Logicator):

  • Designing a complete control system for a car park:
    • Outputs / inputs / monitoring events / procedures

  • Logicator - Creating flow sheets to control various simulations

General areas covered:

  • The barge project - a CAD exercise covered in Year 7Word processing and desk-top publishing (DTP) using Microsoft Word 2000.
  • Searching and retrieval of information from the Internet and multimedia CD-ROM software, along with its presentation.
  • Setting up email accounts, sending and receiving email and email attachments.
  • Modelling and graphing using a spreadsheet (Excel 2000).
  • Computer aided design (CAD) using 2D Design and Pro/DESKTOP 2000i, linking in with construction projects in the Design & Technology department.
  • An introduction to computer programming using control simulation software.
  • Searching and sorting pre-prepared databases followed by pupils collecting data and constructing their own databases.
  • Web page development and construction of a simple website.
  • Digital image capture and manipulation
  • Producing web animations using Serif PhotoPlus 6
  • Using PowerPoint slide presentation software and giving a presentation to a class using a data projector.
