WHY WAS IT NAMED NITROGEN?

It comes from the Greek words meaning 'NITRE - FORMING ' .

 

WHEN WAS IT DISCOVERED AND HOW?

Nitrogen was isolated by an English Doctor called Daniel Rutherford in 1772.

Then a French man of the name ,Antoine Laurent Lavoisier.

 

USES OF PROPERTIES

It is important for plants when it is formed into NITRATES and it is also a constituent of protein in animals tissue.

USES OF NITROGEN

Nitrogen is manufactured to make fertilisers, also with phosphorus and potassium .Large quantities of NITROGEN are used in the making of AMMONIA which is used to make plastics and nitric acid.

A DESCRIPTION OF NITROGEN,

Nitrogen is a gas which has no colour, taste, odour/smell. Nitrogen only dissolves slightly in water which is a lesser degree than oxygen.
