Welcome to Katharine Lady Berkeley's school, a highly successful 11-18 mixed comprehensive with approximately 1514 pupils on roll including 289 in the sixth form. The school has a long history, having been founded on October 20th 1384 by Katharine, the wife of Lord Berkeley and operating continuously since that date. Our school nestles under the southern tip of the Cotswold escarpment, close to the town of Wotton-under-Edge in Gloucestershire.
The school was originally sited in the town itself, having moved to the old school buildings in 1726. In 1963 the school moved to its present location just outside the town.
We are committed to ensuring that pupils and students have the widest range of opportunities available to them when they leave the school by offering a broad and balanced curriculum. This enables them to gain the best results of which they are each capable and also promotes the development of the personal qualities necessary for success in further or higher education, employment and in adult life in general.
We place a high priority on the personal development of young people so that they learn how to work and live together and how to enjoy healthy and active lives. Therefore these aspects of education are evident throughout the whole curriculum, through a wide range of extra-curricular activities and an excellent system of pastoral care and support. This was noted in our last full OFSTED inspection in 2008, when the report referred to our ‘excellent pastoral support and guidance’ and to ‘the pupils’ outstanding personal development and well being’.
