Year 10 Work Experience 2005

Name of the Work Experience placement:
Andrew Mitchell sculptures (Bruno Bronze)
Type of work experience:
- Cleaning a first world war sculpture.
How did you get there each day?
- I got a lift from Andrew Mitchell
In general, what sort of things did you have to do?
- Clean sculptures with joss machine, scrub it down, wash it down, get there
lunch and set out the equipment
What did you think of the work experience?
- It was much better than I thought it would be. It was hot and I was
working outside so it was very relaxed but I can imagine it being a bit
miserable if it was raining. The work was fun and my employers gave me the
chance to do a lot more than I thought I would be able to.
Daily diary:
- Monday: Just watched Person using joss machine helped out setting up
equipment.
- Tuesday: did some joshing my self. The joss Machine sprays out sand and
water very hard and fast onto a sculpture and cleans off the horrible green
dirt. I joshed a plak with a picture of an angle, child mother and disseat war
veteran on it.
- Wednesday: I scrubbed the Bronze plak down with a bronze brush and just
general helped out here and there.
- Thursday: I joshed and scrubbed another plak but one with just war veteran
names on it.
- Friday: I finished off the plaks by putting on a protective kind of
varnish and washed them down.
Any special skills that were needed:
- Just general basic resistant material skills are useful.
Any other requirements such as special clothing or safety equipment:
- Yes overalls, helmets, protective eyewear sometimes and toe shielded boots
