All of Year
10 were given the opportunity to visit The Gloucestershire Skills Festival.
This is a major careers initiative where local employers give young people
the opportunity to try "hands on" with a wide range of careers.
The school sent two coaches with over 100 pupils. They were able to enjoy
paint-balling and camouflage techniques with the army, introduction to
childcare and related social service opportunities. Talks were given by
Hartpury College and Gloscat concerning the courses that they offer.
As usual Health and
Beauty as well as massage was in demand, along with a variety of professional
sporting opportunities. It was surprising to see how many females were
interested in motor engineering and civil engineering - they were given the
opportunity to actually lay some bricks, tile a wall and carry out other
tasks associated with manual trades.
The event was well
organised and thoroughly enjoyed by our pupils. We will certainly be
participating next year.
